A clever trick-taking card game where you cannot see the values of your own cards! In LUZ, players must study their opponents' hands, deduce the cards they are holding, and predict how many tricks they can win. With hidden information, bidding, deduction, and a yellow trump suit, every trick becomes a test of memory and strategy.
Players: 3–5 | Age: 10+ | Playing Time: Approximately 30 minutes
🎮 How to Play
1. Deal & Arrange the Cards
Each player receives 10 cards. Players arrange their cards by color and value, then pass the arranged hand to the player on their left.
You then receive another player's hand and hold it so that you can see the colors of your cards but not their values. Everyone else can see your card values.
2. Study the Other Players' Hands 👀
This is where the deduction begins!
Look carefully at the cards visible in your opponents' hands. Use the cards you can see, along with the missing cards and their colors, to work out what values might be in your own hand.
3. Predict Your Tricks 🎯
Before playing, each player secretly bets on how many tricks they think they can win.
You can also take a Safety Bead, which gives you some protection if your actual number of tricks is slightly different from your prediction.
4. Play the Tricks 🃏
The first player plays a card, establishing the required color.
Players must follow that color if they can. If they cannot, they may play another color.
Yellow is the trump suit, meaning a yellow card can beat cards of the required color. The highest applicable card wins the trick.
5. Keep Playing
The winner of each trick leads the next trick.
Each deal consists of 10 tricks, after which everyone counts their results.
6. Score Your Prediction 🏆
Your score depends on how accurately you predicted your number of tricks.
If you hit your bid exactly, you earn points. Missing your prediction results in a penalty based on how far you were from your bid. Using a Safety Bead reduces the reward but gives you more flexibility.
7. Win the Game
The game is played over 4 deals. After the fourth deal, add up the scores.
🏆 The player with the highest total score wins!
