Turn Base Metals Into Gold!
Step into the world of alchemy with Aurum, a clever and beautifully illustrated trick-taking card game where players compete to transform common metals into precious gold.
What makes Aurum special is its “must-not-follow” trick-taking system: instead of following the suit already played, you must play a card from a suit that has not yet appeared in the trick. Add bidding, gold cards, clever timing, and tactical decisions, and every round becomes a battle of prediction and strategy.
🎮 How to Play
1. Choose Your Bid
At the beginning of each round, players predict how many tricks they think they can win by selecting a bid card.
In a 4-player game, players form two teams of two, with the higher bid between teammates becoming the team's bid.
2. Play Your Cards
Players take turns playing cards into tricks.
Here's the twist: you cannot play a suit that has already been played in the current trick.
This unusual rule means you constantly need to think ahead and manage the suits remaining in your hand.
3. Win the Trick
The highest-numbered non-Gold card wins the trick.
But Gold is special—Gold acts as the trump suit, allowing it to beat the other cards.
4. Collect Gold
The player who played the lowest non-Gold card gains a Gold card of the same value, if one is available.
Gold cards can become valuable points or be used strategically during the game.
5. Manage Your Gold
Gold cards can also be used to modify bids during a round, giving players another strategic way to adapt their plans.
6. Score the Round
If you hit your bid exactly, you earn double your bid value.
If you win more tricks than your bid, you earn your bid value.
If you fail to reach your bid, you score no bid points.
Gold cards in your collection also contribute points. The player or team with the most points earns a Gold Nugget, and the first to collect 2 Gold Nuggets wins!
